FSL Retention and Recruitment
Professional Learning Series – Supporting our FSL Teachers
The FSL context requires a solid understanding of the best practices that can support student confidence, proficiency and achievement in French as a Second Language. Many new teachers often feel isolated as they work within unique environments. Current supports within school boards often rely on generalist expertise through learning coaches. Even Principals, who are positioned as the instructional leader within the school, often have a very limited understanding of how to support new teachers in the FSL context.
The videos, learning guides and webinars created for this project include three modules intended to provide principals, NTIP leaders, learning coaches and mentors with tools that can be used immediately in supporting a new FSL teacher. These tools will help empower leaders of all kinds to support new FSL teachers where a specific FSL support person may not be at hand.
